Speedboat transfer from Ko Lanta to Ko Ngai

There is always a variety of different quality of transport vessels to ferry between the islands of the Andaman Sea. As a rule, I catch a standard ferry, as it is really part of the adventure, and doesn’t really feel right paying big bucks to save a small amount of time, to get fast ferries, speedboats etc.
However, the trip between Ko Lanta and Ko Ngai is a bit different. The reason being, the time difference between the regular ferry and a speedboat transfer is significant. This is for two reasons..1stly, obviously speedboat goes quicker than ferry (not rocket science, I know), but 2ndly, it goes a different way.
The regular and high speed ferries go anti-clockwise from the port on the north east coast, around Lanta, and head off south west to Ko Ngai, where as the speedboats can cut through the mangrove swamp between Ko Lanta and the mainland. This results in only about 1/2 the distance to travel! Therefore, 3 hours on the ferry becomes about 45 mins. That is worth the extra cost!
Cost for the speedboat transfer was 650bht per person, on about a 25 seater speedboat. And the trip is quite scenic through the mangroves as a bonus!
