Ko Ngai Seafood Bungalows - Sounds a bit unusual? well it was Sensational

Ko Ngai is a tiny dot off the South Andaman Coast, about an hour by speedboat from Ko Lanta, itself about 2 hours south from Phuket. I’ve commented before on the island, the tranquility, and coral reef that runs off the beach. This, and the fact the main beach is east facing, towards the mainland, and sheltered from weather and swell from the open sea to the west, are just some of the factors that make this island idyllic.

But where can you stay if you go there?

Get the best hotel rate in Phuket, Thailand

I have recently been shopping around heavily, to find a great rate for a week in Phuket, Thailand. I have been to Patong Beach several times over the last few years and always wonder if I am getting a good deal! The Thais can be very convincing, so I pay, but then I am always left wondering….

Anyhow, I have tried walkup rates, as well as both shopfront and Internet travel agents. Todate, the best solution I have been able to find, has been a search and compare website -www.HotelsCombined.com“>HotelsCombined

This site search 40+ booking websites, to find the best deal! It included the big names, and some reputable local companies. I have used this website to book the Andaman Resort, and Laguna Beach Resort. Both times I ended up with a deal about 30% under elsewhere, and I was directed to a different booking engine each time! This demonstrates that they don’t appear to play commission favourites, it appears to really be about the best deal!

Good for Us!

Ko Ngai Island in Thailand’s Andaman Sea

January 26th, 2010

Ko Ngai is a small island, in the South Andaman Sea, south from Ko Lanta. The island has only the 1 main beach area, which is wonderfully located on the mainland side of the island. This creates an area very sheltered from the sea, and weather coming from the west. A reef offshore created almost lagoon like conditions off the beach.

Get the best hotel rate in Phuket, Thailand

Being a regular vistor to Phuket, and other parts of South East Asia, I like to research the different methods to get the best hotel rates. I have found, for Phuket, and in particular, Patong Beach, a thorough search of internet booking sites is the best and most effective way to go. (forget walk in rates, and travel agents!)

And, in my experiance,. the best way to check internet rates, is through a comparision site. To this extent, I always use, and recommend HotelsCombined

They compare nearly 40 different room bookers, as well as most of the major hotel groups sites, to find you the best rate. Definately consider HotelsCombined. Even if just to keep your regular provider honest!

It is frustrating when you are booking a hotel through Wotif, and you see that bargain WOT hotel, but don’t know where or what it is. You have to take their word for it?

Not if you are looking at Sukhumvit, Bangkok!!

I often get asked for the “Ultimate” south east Asian itinerary. Where to go if time is not limited? as well as “how far could you keep going, on the same trip”.

Well, I think, the “ultimate” single journey through South East Asia, would be as follows;

Speedboat transfer from Ko Lanta to Ko Ngai

There is always a variety of different quality of transport vessels to ferry between the islands of the Andaman Sea. As a rule, I catch a standard ferry, as it is really part of the adventure, and doesn’t really feel right paying big bucks to save a small amount of time, to get fast ferries, speedboats etc.

We had reason to seek out and visit the Embassy of Nepal, while we were in Bangkok recently, and found it slightly difficult to find. As a result I thought I would post the details of how and were, so others may find in more easily!

FuramaXclusive Asoke, Sukhumvit, Bangkok

We stayed at the furamaXclusive Asoke Hotel, in Sukhumvit, Bangkok, at the end of March 2009, as we finished our month in Thailand, and prepared to Fly to Kathmandu, Nepal. We booked the hotel as a Wot Hotel, through Wotif, meaning we did not know the mane or exact location of the hotel before we booked and paid for it. We were looking for 4 star hotel in Bangkok, but needed it to be in the price range of the 2 and 3 star hotels we had been staying in for the rest of Thailand!

Wotif had the hotel at 1799 baht at one point, but we had a problem with credit card and couldn’t book it. Next time we were online it was 1999 baht, as against a book price of 2500 baht. So we booked it, as it was advertised as international chains brand new hotel, and in Sukhumvit, where we had decided to stay.
